Cherokee High School will be the second school in the Lenape Regional High School District to receive a synthetic turf field at no cost to the school or district.
At its May 20 meeting, the LRHSD Board of Education accepted a gift from the Evesham Celebration Foundation and Marlton Recreation Council that will provide engineering studies in preparation for the installation of a multi-purpose, synthetic turf field at Cherokee’s Foltz Stadium.
LRHSD Superintendent of Schools Emily Capella said the BOE’s acceptance of this gift was the first step in a project that will cost about $600,000.
District officials stressed that no district funds would be used to purchase or install the turf field at Cherokee.
The district will be responsible for the annual grooming and routine maintenance costs of the field, which is expected to be less than current expenses required to maintain natural turf, LRHSD Board of Education president Dr. William Bisignano Jr. said.
Maintenance costs include the purchase of a turf-grooming machine, which the district had previously bought at a one-time cost of $2,500, and yearly maintenance costs that are not expected to exceed $3,000, district officials said.

I just hope that it is not another FieldTurf field like the others in the state. FieldTurf, who bosts the best turf on Earth and has a strangle hold on NJ, is the WORST turf that I have ever played on.

We need a product that does not shed and turn into concrete after a couple of weeks. We should know better that sand gets rock hard!!!! We have a couple hundrd miles of shore line where this happens everday!!!!! All rubber is the way to go

There is a much better way to go than all rubber. How about no rubber at all! Our school board is in agreement with you Tim that FieldTurf has sold everyone a bill of goods but does not deliver a reliable product. There are some new turf company’s out there with better products and limited to no infill. We are in the process of turf selection right now and we have one sample from a turf company out of Arizona (USA Turf I think) that has a great looking design with no rubber at all. If your spending the money to buy turf, make sure you buy turf and not a bunch of tires…

Well, I am sure glad to see that the wishes of the taxpayers are given their due! Did the township residents vote a proposal down for the township to help fund a turf field at Cherokee? So now THREE HUNDRED THOUSAND comes out of the Rec Council’s line of credit to offer the Lenape School District as a “GIFT” to help them build a field of their own. Wow! Just how does that line of credit get paid back? Gee… let me think…. could it be higher fees for rec programs and need I say MORE TAXES?

I huess my question is, since I have no kids and do not use these fields, WHERE CAN I GET MY MONEY BACK?
